My name is Jackie Bliss, and I’m the CEO of HARP, Southend’s leading homelessness charity. At HARP, we know that homelessness is a key concern of residents in the City of Southend-on-Sea. When I was invited to write this piece for the Oracle, I jumped at the opportunity to provide readers with an update on homelessness in Southend.
January this year, I wrote an article ‘Why has this been allowed to happen?' Raising awareness of the plight of Southend’s High Street and surrounding areas. (If you missed the article visit Oracle’s ‘Latest magazine page' on its website). That article sparked a huge amount of attention, and I am pleased to say that Essex Police have since increased their visibility on the High Street, which is great news.January this year, I wrote an article ‘Why has this been allowed to happen?' Reported crime in 2021 was lower than it was in 2019, meaning fewer victims of crime which can only be a good thing.
Over the last 16 years since launching the Oracle, I have never used the magazine to write my own personal views, however I feel I can’t stay silent any longer. I know my sorrow and frustration regarding Southend’s accelerating demise, is shared with many of you. Share your views on this issue by writing to info@oraclepublications.co.uk
