The Homelessness Picture in Southend-on-Sea

My name is Jackie Bliss, and I’m the CEO of HARP, Southend’s leading homelessness charity. At HARP, we know that homelessness is a key concern of residents in the City of Southend-on-Sea. When I was invited to write this piece for the Oracle, I jumped at the opportunity to provide readers with an update on homelessness in Southend.

January this year, I wrote an article ‘Why has this been allowed to happen?' Raising awareness of the plight of Southend’s High Street and surrounding areas. That article sparked a huge amount of attention, and I am pleased to say that Essex Police have since increased their visibility on the High Street, which is great news.January this year, I wrote an article ‘Why has this been allowed to happen?' Reported crime in 2021 was lower than it was in 2019, meaning fewer victims of crime which can only be a good thing.

Over the last 16 years since launching the Oracle, I have never used the magazine to write my own personal views, however I feel I can’t stay silent any longer.
