So here it is merry Christmas…” Okay, I’ll spare you the Slade impression, albeit my Noddy Holder is AMAZING! Anyway, the party season is well and truly upon us and after the dress, shoes and bag are sorted, it’s time to consider the finishing touches.
Sure, you could go for bold, on-trend makeup but personally, I think this time of year just begs for a classic, tried-and-tested look.
Surely, there’s nothing more glamorous than red lips? A vibrant shade of scarlet makes anyone look like a movie star (when applied correctly). Do your research first though and find the right shade for you. Don’t forget to prime your lips beforehand by buffing away any dead skin with an old toothbrush or lip scrub, and seal them with something like Vaseline.
Of course, if you’re feeling a little more daring, dark vampy hues like burgundy, berry or even black will make you stand out from the crowd. Be sure to keep your eye makeup subtle and natural to avoid looking like you’re still celebrating Halloween.
If you’re channelling your inner Bohemian, smoky eyes are very sultry and cool. Use dark, earthy tones such as brown, grey or black eyeshadow blended across the eyelid, with a creme-based shadow on the brow bone to maximise the effect. Lining your eyes, and adding mascara will complete the look.
Just like the baubles on your tree, sparkly shades of gold, bronze and silver go perfectly with Christmas, especially when glitter is involved! These hues look great swept on the eyelids to dramatic effect - make sure you brush some into the corners of the eye socket and underneath the lash line too for the ultimate glam, ready to party hearty vibe.
Finally, being a hairdresser, I couldn’t not mention a styling tip. Retro waves are always flattering and, if you’re in a rush to go from the office to the party venue, really easy to create with straighteners. Just wrap a section from the bottom to the roots, hold for a few seconds, then slowly pull down through the length of the hair. Seal with plenty of hairspray.
Oh go on then, altogether now: “So here it is merry Christmas, Everybody's having fun, Look to the future now, It's only just begun… Iiiiiit’s Christmaaaaaaaaasssss!!!!”
